Freedom Marathon

The Freedom Marathon will take place from June 4th to 7th 2026, in Normandy, across Caen and its surrounding areas (Courseulles-sur-Mer, the D-Day landing beaches, historic D-Day sites). Organised as part of the “Normandy Running Festival”, this sporting event pays tribute to the events of the 1944 landings and offers a range of races for all abilities — marathon, half marathon, relay, 10 km, as well as walking and charity runs. The routes pass Juno and Sword Beaches, the Ouistreham Casino, the iconic Pegasus Bridge and other historically significant locations, blending sport, remembrance and the discovery of heritage. With more than 30,000 participants, 17 towns crossed, 6 different races and a festive atmosphere symbolising freedom and memory, the Marathon de la Liberté remains one of Normandy’s major sporting and commemorative events.
