The University of Caen Normandy is launching the first English-language Book Festival, a cultural and literary event never before seen in the region. Organised by the UFR Langues Vivantes Étrangères and the ERIBIA research team, the festival aims to promote contemporary English-language literature and encourage exchanges around translation, literary creation and dialogue between cultures.

Special guests:

  • Douglas Stuart, Scottish writer and winner of the 2020 Booker Prize.
  • Jan Carson, a Northern Irish author renowned for her inventive world.

The festival will focus on the theme of night, and will include three events open to all:

  • Friday May 16th at 3pm (Université de Caen): Round table ‘Translating Scotland Today’ with translators Charles Bonnot and Daphné Cousin Martin.
  • Saturday May 17th at 3pm (Le Brouillon de Culture bookshop): Signing session with Jan Carson.
  • Saturday May 17th from 7pm to 10pm (Château de Crèvecœur): Literary evening with round table in English (translated), book signing, live music with The Flying Ducks, and food truck.

This project brings together teachers, researchers, students and local partners, and is part of the university’s strong desire to create a link between academic knowledge and cultural life. The aim is to make this festival an annual event that will raise the profile of English-language literature in Normandy.
